Most of us communicate how we communicate in business and at work, with little variation, even if the situation would benefit from it. We expect others to see what we see, understand us and support what we support. Regrettably and sometimes, painfully, we find out that our communication isn’t working.

Lesley Worthington, of Lesley Worthington Coaching and Consulting, recently wrote an article that spoke to this problematic, unintended rigidity.

“If we want to win people over and get them supporting our ideas and standing beside us as we move our initiatives forward, we have to learn how to be flexible in how we approach communication,” she says.

We think, well, that’s what I’m already doing! The support and buy-in should be there!

Something must be missing though if we aren’t influencing or persuading people.
