In the pursuit of success, people are used to reading and hearing that they should request feedback regarding their ideas, decision making and performance.
We may or may not follow that recommendation. As helpful as that approach can be, it’s not ideal and there is a better way, says an organizational psychologist, who is also a multiple-time author.
"The best way to get people to coach you,” said Adam Grant, a professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, “is instead of asking for feedback, you seek advice."
It’s the same thing, isn’t it. Not exactly. There is, Grant said, a distinct difference in interpretation and outcome.
